THRILLING SHIMOGA FORESTby Naji
A two day trip to Shimoga district in Karnataka was planned along with my three friends. We were all excited and prepared. We started by train and the journey gave us a special feeling of pleasure. On reaching the outskirts of Shimoga, the foggy climate of the place was felt. It was a wonderful exciting scene. The land covered with fog was like a stream of milk flowing through the valley, which I can’t forget ever. We felt that we are rising and scenic beauty was much praised by us. There were high mountains and fog filled land ahead were wonderful sceneries. Our journey’s main aim was to stay there in the mountain and watch the sunset and next day’s sunrise. We rented a cottage but didn’t feel comfortable. So we decided to leave it and stay at any other place. We informed the reception that we had an emergency call from native and we have to leave and vacated the cottage. The reception informed us it’s hard to get a mode of transport downhill. We decide to walk downhill and started walking. It seemed to be a light forest. We were told it was about 1.5 km to reach the nearby town. It was really a beautiful walking through the place. We were surrounded by nature by hills, valleys and big trees. We walked enjoying the sunset. The sun vanished by giving its last golden ray to the earth. And there came some darkness, and then we were like running and lost our way. We reached an empty ground and decided to stay there this night and start next day. We all were a little frightened. Avoiding the decision to stay there we again started walking. We walked a lot but there is no bound to that forest. We felt much tired, but the fear made us walk. At that time we heard a sound of a vehicle and started walking to that direction and found a small shop nearby and had some tea. We were not aware how much we walked. There came a jeep and we got into it and asked the driver to leave us at our destination. We told the experience to the driver and he asked whether there weren’t any animals in the forest. His question made us shivering. He told the forest had many animals like elephant, tiger, bison etc. We were happy we are safe. At last we reached our destination. It was almost morning and we were in search of a guide, but we saw the details about some waterfalls and Tunga river. We visited those and enjoyed a lot. The trip was marvelous but a little scary, we enjoyed a lot. The thrilling part was the walk through the forest. It was a wonderful experience.
