As Mahindra's first SUV built on a monocoque platform, the XUV500 comes loaded with features that enhance your driving experience, like a fully-loaded GPS navigation system, a Driver Information System, Cruise Control, Intellipark Reverse Assist and even Smart Rain and Light sensors.
The XUV500 is also a fortress of technology, with safety features like the Electronic Stability Program, Rollover Mitigation, Hill Descent and Hill Control, and ABS with EBD. All this, created from a clean sheet of paper, at Mahindra Research Valley, Chennai.
The XUV500 is the first ever monocoque SUV developed in India and one that met the global aspirations of Mahindra and Mahindra. That meant meeting existing safety legislation the world over.
Crash tests held to European standards saw the XUV500 pass the test with flying colours. And apart from crash worthiness and safety tests, the XUV500 prototypes went through dynamic testing in Australia, across Europe and South Africa. Harsh weather tests were conducted in Sweden and China also. This apart from the numerous part-integration tests conducted in other parts of the world including USA.
A total of 2.5 million km of testing and validation later, the XUV500 was ready for production.
The XUV500 is manufactured in the world-class facility at Chakan, Maharashtra. The Chakan plant is spread over 700 acres and is home to more than 2000 employees. This facility, which is the most ambitious till date by M&M, has seen an investment of more than Rs. 2500 crores. The XUV500 line is semi-automated and has more than 25 robots working on the first Indian monocoque SUV. The line has more than 700 people working on it. Several new technologies including laser welding, teeth power honing and variant Poka Yoke are seen for the first time on this line.
